I Left a Trail (and Not the Inspiring Kind): What a Lost Licence Taught Me About Hormone Health, Burnout & Winter Rest

Ever lost your keys… your licence… your mind?

Last week I went to Byron Bay on a trip away with some close friends. We decided to do the lighthouse walk, and I had one of those “reset” moments – coffee in hand, ocean view in sight, walking shoes on, and nothing but time.

I sat on the grass for a moment of peace before heading up to the lighthouse, took a few photos, and soaked it all in. It was slow, quiet, and perfect. And then I left… Unknowingly leaving a trail behind me.

What I left behind (literally)

  • First, my debit card.
  • Then, somewhere along the track: my driver’s licence.
  • And finally? Another bank card, just for fun.

By the time I realised what had happened, I was already halfway up the Byron Bay lighthouse walk, and if you’ve done it, you’ll know, there’s no quick way back.

I had a choice: turn around and miss the view, or keep walking and pray for a miracle.

So I kept walking… while thinking: “@!$%… what am I going to do?”

My main card (with all my spending money)? Gone.
My ID? Gone.
And my brain? Definitely not firing on all cylinders.

The moment that made me stop

After finishing the walk, I retraced my steps. And would you believe it?
My debit card was still sitting in the grass where I left it.
Untouched. Waiting for me. Shining in the sun.

But my driver’s licence? It’s off living a new life now, probably fallen into the bushland somewhere.

What does this have to do with your health?

Everything.

Because as I walked back to town, still rattled but relieved, I realised this situation felt eerily familiar – this is exactly  how so many women describe what they’re feeling right now:

  • Foggy thinking
  • Forgetfulness
  • Stress and overwhelm
  • Feeling scattered and never quite on top of life

If this sounds like you – you’re not alone.

Whether you’re navigating perimenopause, burnout, raising kids, working full-time, or juggling all of the above… these symptoms are not just “life being busy”. They are signs from your body that something needs to shift.

Hormones, stress and winter fatigue: what’s really going on?

In clinic, I see this time and again. When your hormonesnervous system, and energy reserves are under pressure, even the smallest tasks feel impossible.

The result?
You drop the ball.
Your patience shortens.
Your memory becomes foggy.
And you feel like you’re always catching up.

But this isn’t something to push through. It’s something you can change, reset.

Why winter is the perfect time to reset

Winter invites us to slow down, ground, and reconnect with ourselves. It’s the season of nourishment, rhythm, and reflection. It’s the ideal time to reset your hormones, regulate your stress response, and rebuild energy from the inside out.

That’s exactly why I’ve opened the Winter Intake of my 12-week program: Thrive From Within.
